Busy in the Battery
New York City doesn’t usually bring “farms” to mind. However, within The Battery, a New York City park, an urban farm is bustling with staff and volunteers of The Battery Conservancy who tend to the land and harvest its crops. But there’s another “hidden helper” buzzing around… Bees! The neighboring BeeVillage managed by The Bee Conservancy helps to pollinate the urban farm, resulting in a higher yield of crops. This produce is then donated for food relief in the community.

Missing Meadows: Restoring Florida’s Sea Grass
Florida’s Indian River Lagoon is one of the most biodiverse estuaries in North America. But sadly, this ecosystem is experiencing catastrophic effects due to the depletion of its seagrass. The lagoon has lost an estimated 95% of its seagrass in the last 40 years, which provides food for animals like manatees and nurseries for young fish. Florida Oceanographic Society is on a mission to engage the community and help restore these critical ecosystems.
